Area Supervisor
Role and Responsibilities
In conjunction with NSBO, the Area Supervisor is responsible for the operation of basketball in their area.
Area Supervisors’ responsibilities consist of:
Develop basketball officiating in their area by promoting the recruitment of new officials, retaining active officials and improving officiating through a program of education and evaluation.
Devise an operational and financial plan which meets the needs of their members and the basketball community.
Organize a clinic in coordination with the Provincial Interpreter prior to the start of each season.
Collect all membership dues and ensure money, along with appropriate data, is forwarded to the Provincial Treasurer by the announced date.
Attend all NSBO meetings and provide an annual report to the Executive.
Coordinate annual fall training for new officials in their respective area.
Organize an Area Annual General Meeting covering the operation of their area (i.e., elections, finances, membership, etc.)
Be familiar with the Operational Guidelines and Rules and Regulations of NSBO to assist in the management of their area.
Ensure officials adhere to officiating standards, dress code and NSBO’s code of conduct.
Participate in the selection process for NSSAF Provincial Championships and other designated tournaments.
Communicate with all partners and local leagues to ensure matters arising from discipline and misconduct (by players, coaches, fans and officials) are dealt with promptly and in accordance with NSBO policies.
Ensure all discipline issues are well documented and submitted on a timely basis in accordance with NSBO policies.
Be knowledgeable of the National Certification Program and identify certification level for officials in their area (i.e., Level 1, Level II, etc.).
Provide input to the Executive on several issues as they arise (i.e., rates, awards, High Performance Program, etc.)
Ensure there is an assessment program in place. This should be done in consultation with the Provincial/ NOCP evaluators.
Share NSBO and CBOC information with members as it becomes available.
Work closely with their Area Assignor to promote best practices and identify games/programs of concern
Work with Area Supervisors of their sister areas on matters such as requesting help to cover games, boundary disputes, educational opportunities, etc.
Coordinate the election process for the Area Supervisor and Assignor in their area. The Area Supervisor must inform their membership the position of Assignor is up for application every three years so any member may have an opportunity to apply for the position. The Area Supervisor position is for 2 years. All appointments will be approved by the Core Executive.
